Let There Be Peace On Earth!

Recently, I found myself humming a lovely little song.  Years ago, when I was in high school, (MANY years ago) my vocal coach asked me to sing at a teacher's meeting. This is the song that I chose.

"Let There Be Peace On Earth" by Jill Jackson and Sy Miller.  It is reprinted here by permission.

Let there be peace on earth
And let it begin with me;
Let there be peace on earth,
The peace that was meant to be.
With God as our father,
Brothers all are we.
Let me walk with my brother
In perfect harmony.

Let peace begin with me,
Let this be the moment now;
With every step I take,
Let this be my solemn vow:
To take each moment and live each moment
In peace eternally.
Let there be peace on earth
And let it begin with me.

Some Alternate Lyrics

The alternate lyrics do not take anything away from the song.  Instead of the "God as our father" part, the alternate goes like this:

With Earth as our mother,
We are family.
Let us walk with each other
In perfect harmony.

With whatever lyrics you prefer, this song is perfect for the holidays.  I sang it all those years ago with a young idealistic heart.  My heart is no longer young, having experienced and witnessed more horrors and strife than I can share with you.  And yet...my heart still believes in and hopes for true and lasting peace.

And so, this is MY grownup wish for Christmas, Bodhi Day, Hanukkah, Ramadan, Diwali, Kwanzaa, Boxing Day, Omisoka, Solstice and Yule - let there be peace on earth!  May you experience the peace that passes all understanding.

Sending you my love,

Shanna
